Shared Writing

Sailing on Saturday

Today for shared writing we were writing about Luke's trip to the yacht club.  We are revisiting recount writing this term before we complete our end of year sample, to demonstrate all of what we've been learning this year!
Today we were looking at paragraphing and reminding ourselves about some reasons to change paragraphs.  These are:
- a new character comes along
- a new event happens
 - a new idea is introduced
 - the setting changes
 - a new person is speaking
 - time moves forward (or backwards)
 - the 'camera' moves
  - Now hit enter/return! -

Can you think of any others?

Here is today's story... http://goo.gl/nCp5ce

CJs Shared Story

Shared Writing

Today we were revisiting how to write Recounts.  As a class we wrote a story together. CJ started it by telling us all about his recent trip to the bumper boats, and Mrs Power recorded it using the Story Builder website.
http://docsstorybuilder.appspot.com/

We then all helped add and improve the recount by adding describing words around the setting, making sure we had paragraphs, adding L4 punctuation, and even a simile!

We think that our class recount turned out great! You can watch it here

Maths Knowledge Passport Term 4

For the Maths component of Room 2 Home Learning, children in Years 5 and 6 have been given a 'Knowldege Passport'. The purpose of the 'Knowledge Passport' is to help your child gain a quick and accurate recall of the key items of Numeracy knowledge for their level.

This knowledge will enable them to develop a broad range of strategies to solve mathematical problems efficiently, and help them gain success in Mathematics. The level they have been given is the one that will best meet their Numeracy needs, based on what they are learning in their class Maths programmes.

When they can demonstrate to the teacher that they can answer a few questions based on the concept, they will be signed off by the teacher. The object is to complete each box, and move to the next level. There is no set time-frame for this to be achieved, but we are hoping that your child can move on from their current Knowledge Level.

 We are expecting each child to work at a steady pace, and to take responsibility for their own learning. Correct answers need to be given in three seconds. (NB: some questions in Stage 7 and 8 will allow more time as they involve a lengthier process to find the correct answer and cannot realistically be answered in 3 secs)

When students pass one question and move on to the next they still need to go back and revisit goals passed in order to maintain a quick and accurate recall of this knowledge. If you’ve ever wondered how you can help your child with their maths – this is it!

 On pages that follow you will find web links you can use with your child to help them practice their Numeracy Knowledge. You can further support your child's success in achieving their Knowldege Passport goals by:

 * being positive and enthusiastic about mathematics yourself;
 * asking questions about what your child is doing in Maths;
 * getting your child to show you how to solve Maths problems;
 * showing your child how you solve Maths problems;
 * valuing their ideas especially if they differ from yours;
 * encouraging and praising their efforts;
 * making Maths learning FUN!

 If you have any questions about the 'Knowledge Passport' please talk to me
